DOT Physical and Med Card Services

What is a DOT Physical?

A DOT physical exam is a mandatory medical examination required by the DOT for individuals applying for or renewing a commercial driver’s license (CDL) or other safety-sensitive positions in industries such as trucking, public transit, and aviation. The purpose of the exam is to ensure that employees are medically fit to perform the duties of their role without compromising safety on the road or workplace.

DOT Physical Exam Components

  • Vision Screening: Ensures that the employee has at least 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, and meets other visual requirements for safe driving.

  • Hearing Test: Confirms that the employee can hear a forced whisper at five feet, ensuring safe communication and awareness in a driving environment.

  • Blood Pressure & Heart Health: Checks blood pressure and heart rate to identify any conditions that may affect the employee’s ability to safely operate a vehicle or perform safety-sensitive tasks.

  • Urinalysis: A urine sample is tested to check for diabetes, kidney disease, and other health issues that could impact job performance.

  • Medical History Review: The examiner reviews the employee’s medical history, including any history of cardiovascular disease, neurological conditions, and medications that may impact the individual’s fitness for duty.

How It Works

  1. Schedule the Exam: Employees can easily schedule their DOT physical exam through our website or by contacting our team. We offer flexible appointment times and mobile testing options for convenience.

  2. Physical Examination: The certified medical examiner will conduct the required physical exam, reviewing the employee’s medical history, performing a vision and hearing test, and checking overall health markers such as blood pressure, heart rate, and urine analysis.

  3. Receive Results: If the employee meets the required health standards, they will be issued a DOT Medical Examiner Certificate (also known as a DOT Medical Card). If further evaluation or treatment is needed, we provide guidance on next steps.

  4. Medical Card Issuance: Upon successful completion of the exam, employees will receive their DOT Medical Card, which is valid for up to 24 months, depending on the individual’s health status.
